In yet another display of their relentless opposition to President Trump’s efforts to restore law and order at our borders, four Democratic-led states are asking a Seattle federal judge to block his recent executive order that challenges the unchecked right to birthright citizenship. The order, signed just days ago, has already sent liberal politicians into a full-blown panic, claiming it’s “flagrantly unconstitutional.”
Democratic attorneys general from Washington, Arizona, Illinois, and Oregon are seeking an emergency restraining order to stop the administration from implementing this commonsense reform. At the heart of the dispute is Trump’s directive that agencies refuse to recognize U.S. citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants and non-permanent residents. Unsurprisingly, the left is framing this as an attack on so-called “fundamental rights,” while ignoring the obvious: America’s immigration system is broken, and our nation cannot afford to remain a free-for-all for anyone who happens to give birth within our borders.
The Department of Justice has already fired back, describing the executive order as a vital part of the president’s mission to address the chaos at the southern border. They argue that the Constitution has never guaranteed automatic citizenship to everyone born here, and historical interpretations of the 14th Amendment back this up. Of course, the left conveniently forgets that the Supreme Court has never explicitly ruled birthright citizenship applies to children of illegal immigrants.
Without judicial intervention, over 150,000 newborns each year would no longer receive the golden ticket of U.S. citizenship simply because their parents broke the law to get here. Naturally, this has Democratic states howling in protest, claiming Trump’s move will rob these children of Social Security numbers, government handouts, and the ability to live and work freely. But let’s be honest—Trump’s policy is about prioritizing the rights of actual Americans and stopping the exploitation of a system that rewards illegal behavior.
The legal showdown is now in the hands of Senior District Judge John Coughenour, a Reagan appointee, who will decide whether to allow this landmark reform to proceed. Regardless of what happens next, one thing is clear: President Trump is not backing down in his fight to put America first.
