The United Kingdom has finally woken up to the dangers of using puberty blockers on children, banning the drugs indefinitely due to “unacceptable safety risks.” Meanwhile, here in the United States, Democrats and their activist allies are doubling down on their bizarre obsession with pushing these experimental treatments on vulnerable kids. Once again, Britain is showing more common sense than the so-called “progressives” who lecture us about following the science while conveniently ignoring it.
Puberty blockers, often rebranded by activists as “life-saving care,” have long been pushed by pharmaceutical companies and the left as a safe, reversible treatment for kids dealing with gender dysphoria. But the facts tell a much darker story. The Cass Review, a groundbreaking investigation led by Dr. Hilary Cass, dismantled the entire foundation of “gender science.” It found that puberty blockers have no proven benefits, compromise bone density, and leave children’s cognitive development, emotional stability, and future fertility at risk. In her words, these drugs are “powerful” and carry “significant risks” with “unproven benefits.”
The British National Health Service (NHS) has acted decisively. Minors can no longer access puberty blockers through private clinics or overseas providers, with the indefinite ban going into effect next year. Compare that to the U.S., where organizations like Planned Parenthood are doling out puberty blockers and hormones to kids with little oversight. Between 2019 and 2023, nearly 14,000 minors in America underwent some form of sex-change treatment, with over 8,500 receiving these dangerous drugs. It’s a national disgrace.
Britain’s approach now emphasizes mental health and holistic care, offering support to confused children instead of rushing them into irreversible medical procedures. Dr. Cass rightfully criticized American medical associations for ignoring this evidence. In a New York Times interview, she called out the American Academy of Pediatrics for clinging to outdated positions and misleading the public about the supposed benefits of puberty blockers. She’s absolutely right. Here in America, Democrats would rather align themselves with woke activists and Big Pharma than protect children from medical experimentation.
Thankfully, Republicans are stepping up. In 24 states with GOP-led legislatures, bans on puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and sex-change surgeries for minors have already been passed. And more are on the way. The U.S. Supreme Court is currently weighing a puberty blocker ban in Tennessee, and a favorable ruling could pave the way for nationwide protections against these harmful practices.
The left will, of course, call this “discriminatory animus,” as one Clinton-appointed federal judge did. But what’s truly discriminatory is pushing unproven, life-altering drugs on children in the name of ideology and profit. Conservatives believe in protecting children, not exploiting them. The Democrats, meanwhile, seem content to gamble with kids’ futures so they can appease their radical base.
Britain’s ban is a step in the right direction. It’s time for the United States to follow suit and put an end to this madness. Kids deserve care rooted in science and compassion—not an agenda.
